A Prime Issue with Student Loan Funding | Welcome To ...

It is possible to get bad credit student loans, but like any other loan to someone with a bad credit history they bring snags. Many students are worried about the costs of attending university and wonder if they will be saddled with a huge bill to repay over a long time, once they have finished their studies. For this reason many are tempted to take out other loans with shorter repayment periods to help see them through. However this is not always the best idea.

The usual route for students in the UK to get loans to see them through university is through the student loans scheme. From 2012 there will be two student loan types available. In general, providing they meet the criteria to qualify, they will get the, loan regardless of credit history.

There will be a loan for tuition fees, available to all students, and one for maintenance and living costs, available to full-time students only.Obviously these loans do not always provide enough money for many students. If the university they attend is in a popular area, housing costs may swallow the whole loan almost immediately.

This is where many students start to get into financial difficulties. Instead of making provision for themselves by working through the summer holidays before they start, or between terms once they have started, so they have some money extra to their loans, they start to look for other ways to finance themselves. To start with they generally take out credit cards and soon max them to the limit and start defaulting on payments.

Whilst this happens they have probably used all their student overdraft often gone over the limit. To start with the banks will be helpful, but will soon limit their available credit, if they do not keep the terms of any agreements made. They may be denied a check books and debit cards may be recalled or limited to use only when the account is inside agreed limits.

This is when students start looking for other forms of finance. They are available but at a cost. I found several websites when searching for companies that lend to students with bad credit histories. Without exception they were poorly written, and do not read as regular fluent English, which is the first thing which should set alarm bells ringing. The other thing with most of them was that they merely direct you to other websites.

The first websites say that there are no fees, but, as they only redirect you, why should you pay them? When you get to the proper lending website eventually, you?ll find out what happens if you miss payments and the true cost of the advance. It will normally be in small print somewhere and is not pleasant to read. Some lenders will charge as much 35% interest on a loan.

You can avoid this by developing good financial habits from the beginning. If you work whenever you can, you will be able to build up savings to help you. Another good thing to learn is how to manage your spending and how to budget. Doing this will ensure that you never need to look for bad credit student loans.

Storm blankets Neb. after pummeling Colo.

A powerful winter storm that covered parts of Colorado with up to 6 feet of snow crept east across the Plains Saturday, knocking out electricity to thousands in Nebraska as the blanket of heavy, wet precipitation downed power lines and made travel treacherous.

Nebraska got more than a foot of snow, and forecasters predicted the storm would drop several inches Saturday in central Iowa before gradually weakening as drier air mixes in and the front continues east.

In York, Neb., Denise Smart spent her Saturday running the register at a mostly empty gas station near I-80 because few people were out in the snow.

"It was loads of fun getting here this morning at 6:30," Smart said.

While travel was difficult throughout the path of the storm, it caused the most problems in Colorado, where Interstate 70 was closed between Denver and the Kansas border until Saturday morning. More than 600 flights were canceled Friday in Denver.

All winter storm warnings expired in Colorado by Saturday afternoon, but warnings remained in place for eastern Nebraska and central and southwestern Iowa.

The National Weather Service said snowfall across the Denver area ranged from 14 to 20 inches. Nearly 4 feet covered the Pinecliffe area, while there was 18 inches near Boulder and 14 inches in the capital city itself. Several towns in eastern Colorado reported more than a foot of snow.

Ski resorts that have suffered below-normal snowfall this year welcomed the snow, but some benefited more than others. Echo Mountain near Denver received 55 inches of new snow, but the storm only dusted larger resorts in the central Colorado mountains.

The downside of all that fresh snow is greater potential for avalanches. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center reported 2 feet or more of new snow could easily overrun the weak, existing snow pack.

A band of heavy snow stalled over central Nebraska Friday, dumping more than 20 inches in rural McPherson County. A wide swath of Nebraska generally along Interstate 80 received 8 to 12 inches of snow on Saturday.

The highways in Nebraska and Iowa generally remained open during the storm except when accidents or downed power lines blocked the way, but officials urged people to stay off the roads if they didn't have to travel.

"This was an awful wet snow," said National Weather Service forecaster Dave Fobert.

Farmers in Nebraska and ranchers in drought-stressed eastern Colorado were grateful for the snow's moisture. But the high-moisture content also created problems because of the weight of the snow.

The heavy, wet snow caused tree limbs to break and knocked down power lines across Nebraska. More than 15,000 customers, mostly in southeast Nebraska, were without power around midday Saturday, but that number had shrunk below 10,000 by midafternoon.

Utility officials said the fresh snow initially made it difficult to make the needed repairs.

The weight of the snow also made homeowners work hard to clear their driveways.

"It's terribly heavy. It's even hard to move with a snow blower," said Faye Reiss, who lives in Minden, Neb. Reiss watched her snow-removal contractor struggle to move the snow Saturday.

Report: Rangers' Hamilton has relapse with alcohol (AP)

DALLAS ? Rangers outfielder and recovering drug addict Josh Hamilton had a relapse this week when he drank alcohol at a bar, The Dallas Morning News reported Thursday night.

The newspaper, citing unidentified "individuals familiar with the episode," reported Hamilton was drinking at a Dallas-area bar on Monday.

In a statement to the newspaper, the Rangers said they were "aware of a situation, but we don't have further comment at this time."

Hamilton, 30, was suspended for more than three years for drug and alcohol use while in the Tampa Bay organization. He missed the entire 2004 and 2005 seasons. He won the AL MVP in 2010.

This was Hamilton's second known alcohol-related relapse in three years. In January, 2009, he drank to excess in a bar in Tempe, Ariz. Before that, Hamilton said he hadn't taken a drink of alcohol since Oct. 6, 2005.

When the Rangers acquired the 28-year-old outfielder from the Cincinnati Reds on Dec. 21, 2007, they were aware of Hamilton's off-the-field problems and came out with a "zero tolerance" policy regarding his drinking.

He is tested for drug use three times a week and has had an accountability partner to support him in his recovery ? though that job is now vacant.

The Rangers announced last month that Hamilton's father-in-law had been hired as a staff special assistant to be the accountability partner for the slugger. But Michael Dean Chadwick has since decided against accepting that position due to "family considerations."

Hitting coach Johnny Narron filled that role before he left in November for Milwaukee. Narron joined the Rangers when Hamilton was acquired four years ago in a trade from Cincinnati. His primary role was to support the former No. 1 overall draft pick, who rebounded from his substance-abuse problems to become one of the top players in baseball.

Hamilton can become a free agent after this season, and has said he will not negotiate an extension after he reports to spring training.

He said he plans to leave for spring training on Feb. 17, a full week before the full-squad reporting date in Arizona.
